A. General Program

As general, in our program, the learners will learn Bahasa Indonesia while get experiences and knowledge about art and culture especially that they will find in Bali.

1Learning Indonesian for foreign speakersIn-class instructions with a textbook/teaching materials“Sit-in” in some classes such as the Bahasa Indonesia class, the local genius class, and the Cross-cultural Understanding class, in both the English Department and Japanese Department.Understanding Indonesian for communication (listening, speaking, reading, and writing)Being able to directly interact and practice the Indonesian language with the local students, learn the Indonesian and the Balinese culture in particular, and share their culture with the local students.
2Introduction to the cultureCity tour: A visit to the traditional market of Badung, the palace, temple, beach, museum, community center, art center, and others.Eco-tourism: the introduction of the Balinese farmers’ agroculture, including its subak system on the irrigation of rice field, coffee plantation, and others.Rituals and religious ceremonies: marriage ceremony, cremation, tooth-filing ceremony, the rites of passage ceremony at puberty, 210 day circle birthday ceremony, cleansing ceremony, temple ceremony, and others.The Balinese Local Community Activity:  participating in the commemoration of religious festivals such as Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi, Saraswati, etc.; participating in the cultural festivals such as kites festival, making lawar and sate traditional cuisines, making canang receptacles from coconut leaves; participating in the magibungan the-sing-and-eat togetherness.Yoga Class: Joining in the Yoga class with the students/lecturers/staff of STIBA Saraswati Denpasar and the Yoga retreat in Ubud Cultural village.Darmasiswa  students will know the general picture of Balinese social life including Denpasar spatial structure, economic activity, history and culture.The Darmasiswa students should have a general picture of the Balinese social life, including Denpasar’s spatial structure, its economic activity, history and culture.The Darmasiswa students are introduced to the Balinese agriculture and the preservation of its eco-system, including its customs and material culture.The Darmasiswa students should know the Balinese custom and religious system and have an experience in it through direct participation.The Darmasiswa students are able to interact in their activities with the local people in the community so that they may have an understanding of the concept of gotong-royong ‘mutual-help’ and togetherness in the Balinese society.The Darmasiswa students are able to study, practice and appreciate the various types of Balinese art forms.
3Art IntroductionAttending the Balinese art and cultural performances.Learning the Balinese dance and gamelan music.A visit to & a workshop with local artists, painters, wood-carvers, and others.Attending the routinely conducted art performances at the STIBA Saraswati Denpasar.

Learning Bahasa Indonesia

Learning Bahasa Indonesia in our program consists of three activities, namely (1) the students are going to get theory and learn in the class, (2) get some directly practices with local people while attending some ceremonial activities (art and culture knowledge), and (3)take a case study to be a final project. The three parts of those are:

  1. Theory in the class (Listening, Responding to Rule, Reading, Writing, Speaking)
  2. Practice: ‘sit in’ in the local student class, looking for data as presentation material by attending ceremonial activities at banjar or with local people, e.g: Purnama praying (do it when it full moon), melukatodalanngaben (cremation) , wedding events, mepandes, make penjor ahead of Galungan, make  canang, make lawar, kite festival, etc.)
  3. Project (The case study of social problems in Bali raised the theme of what each foreign student wants to know, presented and listened to STIBA Saraswati Denpasar students and lecturers at the end of the level/semester)

B. Design of The Program (regular one year term)

Regular one year term program is a one-year scholarship program offered to foreign students who would like to undertake study of Bahasa Indonesia at STIBA Saraswati Denpasar under approval of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
