LITERATES 2026: International Seminar on Linguistics, Literature, Culture, and the Arts

The Faculty of Foreign Languages, Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar proudly presents LITERATES 2026 (3rd International Seminar on Linguistics, Literature, Culture, and the Arts), a biennial academic forum that continues to grow as a space for global scholarly exchange.

Carrying the theme “Contemporary Glocal Perspectives on Linguistics, Literature, Culture, and the Arts”, this year’s seminar highlights the dynamic intersection between global insights and local contexts across humanities disciplines.

The 2026 edition features distinguished keynote speakers from leading international institutions, including Associate Professor Michele Zappavigna (University of New South Wales), Asst. Prof. Tamisha Lauren Tan (Nanyang Technological University), and Professor Dr. Stefanie Shamila Pillai (Universiti Malaya), alongside Dr. Luh Gede Saraswati Putri (Universitas Indonesia).

The seminar attracts participants from across the region, bringing together scholars from Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. This diverse participation further strengthens cross-border academic collaboration and encourages interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers.


As part of its academic recognition, LITERATES 2026 also presents the Best Paper Awards to outstanding contributors. The first place is awarded to Cris Paulo F. Sabillo (Philippines) for the paper Education, Cultural Resilience, and Environmental Adaptation Among Urban Sama Badjao Communities in the Philippines. The second place goes to Dr. Ni Kadek Dwiyani and team (Indonesia) for Strengthening Folklore as a Source of Ideas for Short Movie Development. Meanwhile, the third place is awarded to Elmy Maswandi (Brunei) for Sociocognitive Polarisation of Former Drug Users in Brunei: A Critical Discourse Analysis.

Through this seminar, LITERATES 2026 continues its commitment to fostering meaningful academic exchange, strengthening international research networks, and contributing to the advancement of studies in linguistics, literature, culture, and the arts.
